Did you know...
...that Black Mountain has over 30 restaurants?
Is it that we like to eat...or maybe it's that we like to cook. Most all of these restaurants are privately owned by Black Mountain residents who love to make good food and have a passion for keeping things local. Just in the past 12 years that I have lived here I have seen new life, new food, and a new consciousness about farm to table style dining.
The most recent new comer is a Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar...Nori. There has been a buzz about this place and I have heard many rumors swirling about who owns it, when it will open, etc....well, I am here to put them to rest and give you a little taste to whet your appetite. This morning I met the owner's son, Cody. He was very friendly and open. Here is the gist...
• Their family grew up here in Black Mountain.
• This is the first restaurant his mother, Kim Hacker, and step-father, Jimmy Chen, have owned
• Jimmy Chen was the head sushi chef at Wasabi, Ichiban, and many of our other favorites
• They plan to open in May...yippy!
The restaurant is bright and cheerful inside. I think it will be a perfect and welcomed addition to the family of food here in Black Mountain! Cody, it was great meeting you and I can't wait for my first meal there.
